Brazilian healthtech Alice, likely to become a unicorn soon, is the latest victim of the recent wave of layoffs. On Tuesday (12), the company confirmed that it reduced its workforce by 63 employees in the sales team last week. The company says it needed to resize the team to support Alice’s expansion plans.
The cuts come nearly seven months after Alice raised a $127 million Series C led by SoftBank. With the round closed on December/21, the company is working hard to enter the corporate market.
According to a statement, the company regrets the layoffs and says the former workers will receive an extra salary and two months of health plan, in addition to the mandatory severance pay.
Each dismissed employee will have the support of a company focused on job relocation. In addition to the layoffs, Alice says it reallocated approximately 20 professionals in other areas.
“We know the impact that a layoff has on a person’s life, and we want to make this moment as human as possible,” says André Florence, Alice’s CEO, in a statement. “Over the first half of the year, we better understood the opportunities to be more efficient and remain sustainable in the long term,” he adds.
According to the company, which currently has more than 680 employees, Alice is still hiring for open positions in Engineering, Product, People, Business, Design, and Marketing.
Alice’s cut follows other layoffs made by high-grow startups such as Daki, which laid off 199 employees last week, and Loft, that reduced 12% of its workforce of 3,200 professionals.
